Dr. Ann Fulcher began her service with the U.S. Air Force when she received a military scholarship for medical school from the Health Professions Scholarship Program. During medical school, summer breaks, and electives, she served on active duty for one month each year. Upon completing residency at VCU Department of Radiology, she entered active duty as a captain at Andrews Air Force Base in Washington, D.C., and served as an abdominal/general radiologist for four years and taught at “America’s Medical School,” the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda. Dr. Fulcher is a recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal, in recognition for her service at Andrews AFB.

“Although I am no longer on active duty, I feel a great deal of pride and patriotism as a veteran and as the daughter of a WWII veteran and the cousin of a Vietnam veteran. Both my father and my cousin were always extremely proud of their service and rightly so! Although my service was nothing like theirs, I was honored to have the opportunity to contribute in some small way.“

Dr. Fulcher is currently a professor and Chair for the Department of Radiology, and Director of the Radiation Safety Program and Director of the Imaging Safety and Compliance Program. Dr. Fulcher enjoys working with the people at VCU Health, the very impetus reason of her wanting to return to the Department of Radiology.
